Now a breakout dance craze, the smash single represents the group’s perspective about themselves being free to explore their artistry and the many possibilities of their career.
‘Gento’ was not made the SB19’s first single under PAGTATAG just because it has the beats to make a global dance craze. Its lyrics speak for what the group went through and their future aspirations, most of all. That is what Ken Suson, main dancer and main vocalist of the group, articulated clearly during the media launch for the group’s new EP last June 9.
“Yung ‘Gento’ po kasi, basically, it summarizes the whole journey of SB19. If you try to understand the lyrics or the message of the song, maiintindihan niyo kung bakit ‘yun yung lead track namin sa EP namin na Pagtatag, “ Suson told the press.
As most may have suspected, the word ‘Gento’ is not merely a slang that the group probably envisions to become a norm among P-POP lovers.
“Nahalintulad din namin ang sarili namin sa ginto. Hindi lang siya ‘Gento’ as a slang word for ‘ganito’ so, pangalawang ibig sabihin niyan is ‘ginto’,” he shared, adding how much the song represents SB19’s journey towards being together and complete.
“So, kumbaga, it isn’t luck na nandito kami ngayon, na pinagsama-sama kaming lima. Kumbaga, ‘yung goal, matinding proseso ang pinagdaanan. Gaya sa amin, matindi din po ang pinagdaanan namin, ‘yung hardwork namin, ‘yung blood, sweat and tears na binuhos namin para makarating sa ganito kalayong lugar,” he said, impressing the press for delivering an unusually longer explanation for everybody. Suson is notably known as one of the less chatty members of the group.
The release of PAGTATAG comes ahead of the group’s much awaited sophomore World Tour, which kicks off on June 24 and 25 at the Araneta Coliseum. The tour includes various locations in the country and in the Unites States and Canada.
