TV host-comedian Joey De Leon received criticism from netizens for his latest joke about the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
The joke also involved a wordplay on his former co-host, rapper Francis Magalona.
Responding to a tweet from a netizen who recalled De Leon’s previous joke about ABS-CBN’s franchise issue, he said, “Totoo naman talaga ‘yun pero nawala rin…si Francise M. gets?”

Several Twitter users, meanwhile, found the joke unfunny, and some specifically criticized De Leon for involving Magalona in the issue.

Here are some more netizen sentiments:
Unpopular opinion: I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for this trio. Not when we all know what they did to Pepsi Paloma. Tito's nauseous political stance—yuck! Joey's insensitive, cheap, and low-blow jokes. Remember how he made fun of ABS-CBN when they lost their franchise? DASURV https://t.co/GcZlL6EsIz

Ginawang katatawanan ang pagkawala ng franchise ng ABS-CBN, ngayon siya na nawalan ng show haha, diba Joey De Leon? Taste of your own medicine po iyan.

De Leon, together with Tito Sotto and Vic Sotto, announced on Wednesday their separation from TAPE Inc., the longtime producer of Eat Bulaga! This was after failing to resolve their internal conflict, which started at the start of the year. TVJ has yet to announce what network they will transfer to.
TAPE Inc., on the other hand, released a statement saying they would continue the show with or without the original hosts.
“Aasahan ninyo ang mas masaya, mas nakakaaliw, at higit pa sa isang libo’t isang tuwa na Eat Bulaga,” read the statement signed by TAPE Inc. president and CEO Jon Jalosjos Jr. and TAPE Inc. director of finance Bullet Jalosjos. “Ang pag-alis ng hosts ay hindi dahilan para tumigil ang pag-ikot ng mundo.”
