On the June 1 episode of #FastTalkwithBoyAbunda, promising actor and dancer of GMA Network Will Ashley De Leon claims that love teams are not beneficial for an artist’s journey to fame.
He said, “Nag-loveteam ako before but narealize ko na iba pa rin po ‘pag solo ka. I mean, puwede mong magawa ‘yung mga bagay na gusto mo, iba’t ibang characters, gano’n. Kumbaga, makakapag-explore ka nang napakaraming bagay”.
If we recall, Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano also shared her thoughts on love team culture. Soberano was also in a love team with Enrique Gil at the beginning of her career.
In contrast with Ashley’s view on the matter, Soberano said in her interview on the ‘Get Real’ podcast that love teams are the only way for an actor to become a big star.
She said, “In the Philippines the only way to become a big star really — if you’re not a singer; if you’re an actor — is to be in a love team”.
Moreover, the actress also shared the insider truth about the love team culture in the Philippines.
Soberano said that being in a love team requires you to be in a relationship with that person on-and-off cam. She added that it actually limits who you’re partnered with throughout your career.
“We only worked with each other throughout our whole career”, she said.
In that sense, both Ashley and Soberano are on the same page when it comes to love teams in boxing-in an actor’s career.
Currently, Soberano is pursuing her dream of going solo for her acting career under Careless Manila to explore more genres of film and more acting opportunities outside of the country.
