During the press conference for Dear Self on May 23, Boom Boom Neri and Grace Abina reveal that they have both faced body shaming and the hurtful comments that often come with it.
“Actually hindi lang victim ng body shaming, victim rin ng mga pinagpalit, usually sila yung nagmemessage sakin na “Paano mo nagawa yung ganiyang body” syempre inaano namin na i-try mo yung ginawa namin, nag meso-lypho kami syempre sasabayan mo rin ng diet yun yung lagi naming sinasabi sa mga friend namin na pinagpalit dahil medyo naging oversize na after giving birth,” Grace Abina, a Showtime Dancer mainstay revealed.
“Kami din po kasi ni Boom Neri naging biktima ng body shaming, everyday po yan, lagi po kaming sinasabihan na “antataba niyo na” hindi na kayo pang-TV, pang-radyo na lang kayo, sakto po na pumasok po yung Dear Self, na-motivate po kami na lalong alagaan yung sarili namin, mahalin yung sarili namin,” Abina added.
Instead of succumbing to negativity, both chose to rise above it.
Boom Boom Neri emphasizes the importance of not solely relying on treatments but also taking personal responsibility for one’s well-being. She encourages finding a balance between professional treatments and self-help efforts, such as maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Grace Abina also echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the transformational impact of the Dear Self-experience.
