In a candid interview during a Zoom media conference for her upcoming series ‘Kung Hindi Lang Tayo Sumuko,’ Filipino actress Coleen Garcia honestly admitted that she was close to not marrying Billy Crawford.
On June 24, Garcia revealed that she had hesitations about proceeding with their wedding just over a month before their 2018 ceremony.
“We almost called off the wedding at that time,” Coleen disclosed during the recent Zoom interview. “I didn’t know if I wanted to push through with it or not. Sobrang magulo ang utak ko noon. But we got through the wedding, hindi kami sumuko, but almost. Malapit na.”
The doubts began to surface when numerous challenges started piling up, leading her to question if marrying Crawford was the right decision.
“I think that was also the time pumasok lahat ng challenges. You ask yourself, ‘Ano ba ‘tong papasukan ko? Tama ba ‘tong decision that we’re making?’ Doon pumasok lahat ng duda kapag naging reality na siya,” Garcia explained.
Garcia acknowledged that there have been moments throughout their nine-year relationship, even to this day, when she contemplated walking away. However, she emphasized that her husband Billy Crawford never allowed her to give up on their relationship.
“But Billy never allowed me to,” she said. “We’re into this together and we should take care of our relationship forever, so it never gets to a point where we have to walk away. It has been a rocky ride for us, from our party days to being in showbiz. We’ve been through a lot and we’ve grown so much together. Not even one time walking away became an option for Billy. That was what got me also to value commitment after we got married.”
The actress admitted to having a history of impulsiveness, often running away from previous careers and relationships when faced with challenges. However, since getting married, she has learned the importance of perseverance and commitment.
“Madalas akong sumuko before. I ran away from so many things, career to personal relationships. I just learned not to give up when I got married because I learned how to value commitment. This is the time when I’ve been trying my hardest not to give up,” Garcia shared.
She also expressed her stance on dealing with specific issues in their marriage, mentioning that although she has seen other couples survive certain problems, such as infidelity, she will not tolerate it.
“I’ve seen so many couples survive a lot of different problems. If that happened to us, let’s say there’s cheating involved, I will definitely walk away. I will not tolerate it. Although I’ve seen other couples survive that,” she asserted.
Despite the struggles they have faced, Crawford has consistently been her grounding force.
“There were days when I’m just really peeved so it was easy to give up or maybe, I was just hungry. But when you’re married and living together for so long, it’s inevitable that you will clash at some point, especially when you have a baby,” Garcia revealed. “There are times when you just want to be alone and you just want to give up, but you know that cannot happen. Billy is my rock. At times when I really want to give up, he grounds me.”
Garcia and Crawford started dating in 2016 and officially tied the knot in April 2018 in Balesin. They have a child named Amari, who will be turning three this September. Garcia’s reduced work commitments in recent years can be attributed to her commitment to prioritize family time.
As the couple navigates life together, their resilience in maintaining their relationship serves as an inspiration to many couples facing their own struggles. They have both made appearances in films, including the movie ‘Mia,’ showcasing their determination and strength as a couple.
