Buboy Villar, one of the hosts of the revamped ‘Eat Bulaga!,’ uploaded his vlog on June 13 featuring his brand-new Toyota Fortuner.
Villar said that his previous car broke so he had to use the motorcycle as his means of transportation. He added that it was about time for his family to get a bigger car as his children are growing.
According to Villar, he bought the car using his own savings from his hard work.
Villar has been given the co-hosting gig after TVJ (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon) and the EB mainstays left due to an internal conflict with TAPE, the noontime show’s producer.
Since the revamp of the show, the new hosts have received hate reactions on social media. Villar, for one, has been recently questioned when one of the show’s segments in the June 5 episode was accused of being scripted.
In the ‘Ikaw Ang Pinaka’ segment, someone named ‘Lele’ was chosen as a contestant from the audience.
The hosts asked his name and interviewed him before taking his weight, which was the deciding factor in determining the segment’s winners.
Consequently, a Facebook post telling that the segment was scripted had gone viral. The post revealed that Lele was allegedly employed by Villar in his ‘paresan’ business and was even featured in some of the host’s vlogs.
The post showed a screenshot of the segment and a screenshot of Villar’s vlog with the following caption:
A number of reactions from netizens arose from different social media platforms. Some called the show ‘CHEAT BULAGA!,’ ‘Fake Eat Bulaga,’ and other derogatory play-on-words.
One viewer tweeted, “CHEAT BULAGA! ‘Yung napili daw at nagtyagang pumila sa labas eh tauhan pala ni Buboy something sa kanyang paresan. (emoji) Eh di ayun, winner si Lele niyo. (emoji)”.

Another user remarked that Villar shouldn’t have acted as if he did not know the contestant:
“Pwede naman manalo si kuya kahit na staff siya ng host, hindi na lang sana nag pretend na hindi mag kakilala (emoji).”

Other viewers of the show also remembered ‘Eat Bulaga!’ with TVJ as its original hosts:
“Naaalala ko sa legit na EB, when they come across mga kakilala ng tvj, proud pa magsabi yung contestant. Pati TVJ sila mismo nagkukwento.”

Amidst the controversy, the show has yet to release an official statement.
With the current perception of the viewers on the revamped version of the show, will the longest-running noontime show be able to bounce from this and retain its glory?
