On June 2, rapper-businessman Jayson Luzadas, known as Boss Toyo, highlighted his goal of changing his music from “explicit” to “inspirational.”
At the media event for his song “Rap Lord’ which LionhearTV covered, Boss Toyo recounted how he used to have explicit lyrics in his music.
He also pointed out his goal of creating motivational songs, especially for his followers.
“So from there, from this–after nito, talagang kung ano na ‘yung gusto ko na like motivational song kasi gusto ko talaga na ma-motivate ‘yung mga followers ko. Kasi from– saan nga ako nagsimula, kung nasaan ako ngayon, gusto ko maging ganon din sila.”
He also voiced his thoughts on Filipinos’ perception of explicit music.
“The only problem here is sa international kung papakinggan mo ‘yung mga lyrics nila, puro explicit ‘yun, pero sinasabayan din natin. Medyo conservative lang tayo dito unlike sa ibang bansa, na-open sila sa mga ganong lyrics kaya nahihirapang i-adapt. Iba kasi ‘yung ano natin eh, ‘yung nature natin na pagiging Filipino, Filipina, may conservative nature eh.”
He also hoped Filipinos would be more open to explicit music in the future.
As for Boss Toyo’s ‘Rap Lord’, the Pinoy rap song under the music label Blvck Music is an arrangement of Engr. Louie Cristobal and Romel Afable with JG Beats as Beat Producer.
