Friends and supporters rallied to Briguela’s side after the Makati police filed a case against her for being involved in a Makati street fight yesterday, June 29.
Since getting detained by authorities over her involvement in a street fight in Makati on the morning of June 29, celebrity host and social media star Awra Briguela has been receiving tons of support from netizens and friends, with many condemning the local police’s decision to charge a case against her and not against the harassers of Briguela’s friends.
Briguela reportedly defended her friends who were allegedly harassed at the The Bolthole Bar in Poblacion, Makati. Witnesses suggest the celebrity’s attempt to settle with the harasser did not bear any good news; instead, the situation worsened and ended up in a street rumble. As seen on clips that went viral on Twitter, Briguela was in chains while being taken into custody by the local police. The video ignited intrigues, with some immediately criticizing Briguela.
The celebrity host’s close friends, however, were quick to defend her and call out the police officers who took her, alleging a mistreatment of Briguela.

The excessive use of force was questionable. Based on the videos, Awra was unarmed. The heavy manhandling was unnecessary. Makati Poblacion is such a cruel place for queer people. @Mayora_Abby what’s happening? Something frightening always comes up during Pride Month in this city

It is very upsetting to think about this prejudice, injustice, trauma, public humiliation, and transphobia that @awrabriguelaaa must have gone through from these so-called protectors of society, all because she bravely stood up for her friend, who was the victim of sexual…

This is why PRIDE Month is necessary. It's not about rainbows and parties. It's about taking up space in a country that refuses to treat people as equals https://t.co/fa3LK7GMgs

Precinct jails are the worst. No food, lots of rats and cockroaches. Plus super tiny! You’re all cramped up in a little cell with so many different personalities. No idea how Awra’s jail is but I hope she’s safe! Hope her lawyers get her out fast! She doesn’t belong in a cell!

Awra Briguela I’m sorry for my insensitive comment I deleted it na, I should’ve not made any comments dahil wala naman akong alam sa nangyari super sorry talaga! You’re really a true friend and I hope everything turns out fine. @AwraBriguelaaa pic.twitter.com/9vhtwKLj0G

They gave the alleged harasser an alias while they plastered Awra’s mugshot everywhere. Wooooow ha

I have always witnessed @AwraBriguelaaa courageously defend people when they get mistreated. Madaming witness dyan. Now if standing up for someone automatically gets painted as irrational aggression — what kind of justice do we have?? #JusticeForAwra

It is worth noting that the incident fell within the LGBTQIA+ community’s celebration of the Pride Month. On Twitter, members and allies of the community tried to call the attention of Makati Mayor Abby Binay, with many demanding prompt action from her to free Briguela and give her the justice she deserves.
Briguela is yet to address the issue and release a statement personally.
