On May 8, unconfirmed reports that the production of Tropang LOL is currently in talks with NET25 to find a new home for the noontime show after it aired its final episode on TV5.
According to an article, Tropang LOL‘s supervising producer, Pat-P Daza of Brightlight Productions, neither confirmed nor denied that they discussed the noontime program’s new home in a new network like NET25.
NET25 president Ka Caesar Vallejos clarified that if the Tropang LOL moves into a new home under their network, they wanted to push more wholesome content for the noontime program.
“Let me clarify that NET25 is a commercial TV station. As a commercial TV station, we accept sponsorships, we accept TV advertising and we get corporate sponsors.
“So our programming is in the general entertainment cluster. Hindi kami doon sa… we are not supposed to be in the news and religious cluster.
“Kasi if you have cable, the news and religious clusters, nandun sa dulo. So, dito naman sa NET25, dapat nandun kami sa general entertainment cluster.”
Tropang LOL first aired during the pandemic in October 2020, following ABS-CBN’s shutdown. While the program began with ‘fairly’ good ratings, its competitor at the time, ‘It’s Showtime,’ continued to air on TV and survive through online views despite the lack of free TV reach.
ABS-CBN then landed a block time agreement with TV5 which included airing It’s Showtime. This agreement resulted in Tropang LOL and It’s Showtime airing back to back on TV5. However, in March of 2023, showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz confirmed that Tropang LOL taped their last episode on March 29, with the final episode airing on April 29.
