On May 17, Smart Communications’ first vice president and head of prepaid marketing and corporate strategy, Lloyd Manaloto, highlighted Filipino gamers’ non-camera-shy attitude when expressing their talents.
At the media conference for The Greatest Gamer Philippines, which LionhearTV attended, Manaloto emphasized how the event would help Filipino gamers tell their stories.
“Generally, Filipinos are shy–but if you put them in front of a camera, in a format like The Greatest Gamer, I think you’ll see a lot of stories. Because suddenly, you’ll see the Filipinos opening up and telling a story.
“And I think, this is a perfect venue for people, not just Filipinos, to see how we express ourselves. So I think that will be a key thing here.”
He also discussed Smart’s commitment to The Greatest Gamer Philippines, including fast internet connection and marketing campaigns.
“Two things no, one is we provide connectivity no. We provide the fast and the best network, and we’re proud of that one–so providing the best and the fastest connectivity to the players.
“Second is, we’re also putting a marketing muscle behind Tiktok. Beyond just Tiktok, right. Across the entire marketing–all of the marketing platforms.”
He then provided details on Smart and Tiktok’s partnership, especially for the upcoming ESports event.
“We’re also a fan of Tiktok as a marketing platform. When we did SIM Reg(istration), our best campaign was pushed through Tiktok.
“So it’s — we’re pulling that creativity and know-how in the marketing side, at least for the local push, right. To help promote the content. And we think it’s going to be a synergystic effect on us. It’s a partnership between two great brands, telco brand, app brand, and then a show that we’re going to build together.”
As for The Greatest Gamer Philippines, TikTok, in partnership with Smart, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Grab, and Samsung, features ten aspiring pro gamers who would be staying in a villa for three weeks and competing in various real-world and gaming challenges.
The winner will win PHP250,000 in cash and will get the chance to receive a contract with Smart Omega and be part of the team’s MLBB Roster.
For those interested, gamers can submit their audition video content by introducing themselves and showcasing their MLBB skills via the @thegreatestgamer and @smartcommunications on TikTok using the official audition filter and hashtag #TheGreatestGamerPH and tagging Smart and The Greatest Gamer’s official accounts. The submission period is from May 24 to June 14.
TikTok aims to feature content following ten aspiring pro gamers and their journey with The Greatest Gamer Philippines, from their backstories, interactions with Creators, and weekly interviews. The social media app provides users and ESports fans a firsthand view of the rising talents as they go through The Greatest Gamer.
