On April 30, seasoned actress Perla Bautista admitted she took a break from showbiz because of COVID-19.
At the story conference for Lola Magdalena, which LionhearTV covered, Bautista confessed she felt afraid to commit to TV or movie projects because of the pandemic.
“Hindi, natakot lang ako kasi ako na baka ako magkasakit, kaya sabi ko, ‘tama na.’ Hangga’t hindi umaalis ‘yang COVID na ‘yan. Eh ngayon medyo lumuluwag eh, luwag na rin ako.”
She then assured that she’s able to do movie projects at her age by stating, “Kung kaya pa ng katawan ko. Kaya pa. Okay.”
Bautista, at 83, accomplished several acting accolades such as the FAMAS Best Actress award for Markang Rehas (1962), FAMAS Supporting Acting Awards for Alamat ni Julian Makabayan (1979), Nang Bumuka ang Sampaguita (1980) and Bulaklak ng City Jail (1984), and Best Supporting Actress award from the Gawad Urian Awards for Anak ng Cabron (1988).
She began her career in 1958 through the film Eddie, Junior Detective.
Bautista joins the cast of Lola Magdalena with Gloria Diaz, Sunshine Cruz, Liza Lorena, Pia Moran, Joonee Gamboa, Marcus Madrigal, Angel Guardian, and Carlo San Juan.
The production, led by Joel Lamangan and written by Dennis Evangelista, begins filming this year.
