Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano has stirred up controversy again with her statements about the love team culture in the Philippines. As a result, the actress is receiving criticism for belittling the showbiz industry she comes from.
Netizens say Liza’s statements suggest she is not proud of her roots in the industry.
Liza says love teams are the only way for an artist to become popular in the Philippines.
This was discussed in Ogie Diaz’s latest vlog, along with Mama Loi and Ate Mrena.
Soberano’s former manager, Ogie Diaz clarified that love teams are not the only way to become popular. Many stars have succeeded alone.
There are also artists who were previously in a love team but became even more popular when they began working solo.
However, the former manager also acknowledged that Soberano’s opinion may have been influenced by her own experience in a love team, so it is appropriate to respect her opinion.
Diaz was also curious why his former talent never mentioned her boyfriend, Enrique Gil, in her statements.
Ogie Diaz and Mama Loi just hope Liza Soberano speaks up about uplifting the industry she comes from.
Diaz expressed, “Sana nga, ganu’n no?
Just recently, the actress expressed her thoughts about the love team culture in the entertainment industry. She claimed that it was the only way for aspiring performers to achieve fame in the Philippines. Liza made this statement during her podcast interview on ‘Get Real’ with Ashley Choi and Peniel of BTOB on April 28.
Soberano also emphasized that love teams have been a common practice in the Philippine entertainment industry “for a long time,” with roots dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.
“It’s been going on in the Philippines for a long time since in the 80s [or] 70s. And in the Philippines, the only way to become a really big star really, if you’re not a singer, is to become a love team,” she concluded.
