The renowned Kapuso creative head speculated that the move to delay FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’s airing was merely an attempt to evade direct competition from Voltes V Legacy.
Suzette Doctolero took to Facebook, yesterday, May 16, to take a swipe at Voltes V Legacy’s rival show, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo (FPJBQ). The Coco Martin-starrer began airing at 8:36 PM, allowing it to evade direct competition from its usual timeslot rival. Much of the show instead confronted Kapuso drama, Hearts On Ice.
“We dont do this kind of shit. Matalo o matalo, lagi kaming matapat sa inyo. Sinasabi ko lang sa inyo ito because I am so fed up with all of these bs,” Doctolero added.
It’s interesting to note, however, that even before the incident, GMA itself, has long been airing most of its primetime dramas, on a later time slot on its sister channel, GTV. This practice by GMA usually gives its primetime shows the advantage to get higher aggregated ratings, which GMA publish to indicate their winning versus Kapamilya shows.
ABS-CBN is yet to explain the real reason behind FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’s delay, examining this incident closely, one can say that it [actually] put the Kapamilya action primetime drama in a disadvantaged position, as shows airing in the later time slots, tend to score lower TV ratings.
According to data from Nielsen Philippines, however, Voltes V Legacy managed to draw a measly 0.7% lead over FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, even though much of the Kapuso live-action TV adaptation went against TV commercials and teaser plugs. In comparison to its past ratings since the pilot telecast the 11.4 people rating posted by its May 15 episode, was already Voltes V Legacy’s lowest since its pilot episode.
It can also be noted, that FPJ’s Batang Quiapo won against Hearts On Ice, which it directly went against from 8:45 PM to 9:36 PM. The Kapamilya action drama notably aired for at least an hour. According to Nielsen Philippines, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo won this bout, 10.7 versus 8.2. What makes this win even more impressive, is that the Xian Liam and Ysabel Ortega-topbilled sports drama, also has a delayed telecast on GTV.
Voltes V Legacy is yet to experience defeat on Nielsen Philippines’ scorecard, but with FPJ’s Batang Quiapo teasing fans of the more intense action to come as does the Kapuso big-budgeted sci-fi series, the competition can only go more intriguing at this point.
