The upcoming Kapuso period drama is reportedly Barbie Forteza’s follow-up project, after ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra.’
Suzette Doctolero denied a netizen’s claim that GMA Network’s upcoming “mega-serye”, ‘Pulang Araw’ is not an original concept. On Twitter, the Kapuso head writer directly responded to a tweet, which called the upcoming series a copycat of Kathryn Bernardo’s upcoming film, ‘Elena 1944’.
“Ay kami pa ang nanggaya? 2013 pa ang concept, day! Saka ako talaga ang gaya-gaya sa historical series, ganern? Pakiayos ang bintang, ang aga-aga pinapainit mo ang ulo ko! Char! #patola,” said Doctolero in her tweet.
‘Pulang Araw’ initially surfaced as an upcoming Kapuso series in 2012. This claim is confirmed by a post on Kapuso’s homepage, Kapuso Archives. “’Pulang Araw.’ It is a story of a Japanese general and a Filipina spy. Rumors are spreading that this is one of GMA’s offerings next year, 2013,” the post captioned on June 5.
To be fair, Kathryn Bernardo’s Elena 1944, is yet to release a full synopsis of the film. This makes it difficult to compare the two projects’ plots. The film is slated to be one of the Kapamilya actress’ big comeback projects in 2023.
‘Pulang Araw’ meanwhile, is set to be Barbie Forteza’s follow-up TV series, after the phenomenal success of the historical portal-fantasy drama, ‘Maria Clara At Ibarra’. Also a period drama, ‘Pulang Araw’ is convincing fans that Forteza is bound to cement her “Queen of Period Dramas” title. The series also marks her second project with rising Kapuso star David Licauco, with whom he shared the popular love team, #BarDa (Barbie and David).
Also dubbed a “mega serye”, ‘Pulang Araw’ is reportedly slated for a 2024 television debut.
