The highly popular Wattpad novel The Rain in España from the University series, with 139 million reads, is finally coming to our screens, and author Gwy Saludes is grateful to Viva for bringing her characters to life.
“I’m so honored na they gave me the chance to give my comments, then a feedback para mas maging better pa yung kalabasan ng episode, at nakabantay ako kung ano dapat yung imaintain.” said Gwy.
Saludes expressed her gratitude and happiness with how the adaptation turned out. “Thankful po talaga ako na The Rain in España is becoming a TV show.” she said.
Theodore Boborol, the director of all TV shows under the series, including The Rain in España, stated,“Nabasa ko po yung mga comments ng netizens, like them I’m also a fan of the Rain in Espana. So siguro ang pinag-kaibahan lang ng adaptation namin is the writer, si Gwy is also a creative consultant of the show.”
“In terms of spirit, yung core, yung essence ng story, at nung characters, I’m hoping na kung ano ang nabasa ng mga fans sa book, yun din ang mapapanood nila.” says the director.
During the press conference on April 19, Boborol revealed how humble and “genius” the author is. “Nominated siya [Gwy Saludes for The Rain in Espana] for National Book Awards. — Si Gwy Saludes, napakahumble po niya.” he said.
The Rain in España is a romantic-comedy series that will consist of 10 episodes, each 45 minutes long, and will span almost a decade. The series revolves around the tender and heartwarming romance between Luna (Heaven Peralejo), an architecture student at UST, and Kalix (Marco Gallo), a legal management major at Ateneo, who are both ambitious undergraduate students.
In the upcoming series, Boborol disclosed that they had to simplify the book adaptation by removing some subplots, including a scene in New York, to make it more feasible.
He said, “Meron kaming nisimplify, like hindi kami nag-shoot sa New York. – May mga sub plots that we have to let go.”
Saludes also shares about what she considers on the story plot for the adaptation, “Yung mga parts na hahanapin ng mga readers.” she said.
She has established herself as a favorite among young Filipino readers, boasting a following of 1.5 million on Wattpad. Since the trailer release trailer of The Rain in España has garnered 6.7 million views across all social media platforms. The 10-part series will premiere on May 1 on Vivamax.
