On May 3, Kapuso journalist Emil Sumangil reacted to getting dubbed “Mr. Exclusive.”
At the media conference for his upcoming Kapuso program, ‘Resibo: Walang Lusot ang May Atraso’ which LionhearTV covered, Sumangil bashfully appreciated the privilege and honor of the moniker.
“Para po akong natutunaw eh. Nahihiya po ako sa totoo lang. Pero siyempre po, privilege and honor na tawagin po na ganon, kasi kahit papaano po, nakikita ng kapwa ‘yung aking hong pagsusumikap at ‘yung standard na hinit ko, or gusto kong ma-hit, few years back, noong ako po ay nagsisimula.”
He then explained the moniker’s origins, coming from his initiative to get ahead of the story or present an unusual angle on a highly impacting piece of news.
“Simula’t sapul, pinilit ko i-hit ‘yung standard na pag-gagawa ako ng istorya, ako lamang sana. Kung magkasabay-sabay man, mayroong distinct character ‘yung istoryang ginagawa ko. So, kung malaki ang coverage kagaya ng Marawi Siege, Maguindanao Massacre, or kung ano pa man na kaso na hinawakan ko, ayaw ko ng parang papareho lang ako sa kanila.”
He also noted the extra effort he puts into digging through the details of each story he aims to present.
Sumangil acknowledged the pressure of getting the “Mr. Exclusive” moniker.
As for his latest public service show, Sumangil hosts the GMA Public Affairs multi-platform program, ‘Resibo: Walang Lusot ang May Atraso’.
