The two shows produced by the Kapamilya entertainment unit go head-to-head on primetime beginning May 29.
A never-before-seen rivalry is set to unleash a conundrum on primetime television, come May 29. ABS-CBN and GMA Network’s historic collaboration series, Unbreak My Heart, finally makes its much-anticipated debut on GMA Telebabad, while primetime series and Janine Gutierrez-starrer Dirty Linen moves forward with a brand new season.
Both shows are produced under the creative team of Dreamscape Entertainment. The Kapamilya entertainment unit is responsible for various top-rating dramas, including FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Doble, Kadenang Ginto, and the currently airing, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
The historical night marks the first time, that the two shows vying for domination over the same time slot, are produced by the same entity, let alone one owned by GMA Network’s former fierce rival, ABS-CBN.
Unbreak My Heart, which replaces the concluding series, The Write One, is the first series to be top-billed by some of the biggest stars of both ABS-CBN and GMA. Helmed by Kapamilya directors, Manny Palo and Dolly Dulu, the primetime drama is headlined by Kapuso stars, Richard Yap and Gabbi Garcia, as well as Kapamilya talents, Jodi Sta. Maria and Joshua Garcia. The series is also going to be available online via streaming services, Viu and iWantTFC.
Now approaching its 4th month on the air, Dirty Linen transitions to a bolder and more intense, new season. Starred by Janine Gutierrez, Zanjoe Marudo, Christian Bables, Jennica Garcia, John Arcilla, Tessie Tomas, Janice de Belen, Francine Diaz, and Seth Fedelin, the Kapamilya suspense drama regularly attracts the attention of both critics and casuals, because of its cast’s impressive portrayals, as well as the various socio-political commentaries that seem inherently embedded, in its story.
It will be interesting to see how this new match-up will affect the dynamic of primetime competition, especially since it has essentially taken down the wall of competition between previous fierce rivals, ABS-CBN and GMA Network. It’s also noteworthy that even this early, reports suggesting that more matches like this, are set to be showcased on local television.
