Uhaw is one of the newest TikTok crazes, and even the Baguio, Benguet-based band, Dilaw, behind this hit track, is surprised by the attention their song is getting.
The band revealed during an interview on April 27 at Warner Philippines’ 30th-year celebration music festival featuring Warner Music artists including Dilaw, Leanne & Naara, and many more.
“Uminom lang kami ng alak. – Yung ‘Uhaw’ para lang siyang mushroom na lumitaw,” revealed Vie Viloria, Dilaw’s rhythm guitarist, revisiting the crazy time they were just enjoying a good time with some drinks that resulted in their now-hit song ‘Uhaw,’ which is taking the internet by storm and has reached 35 million listeners.
“‘Wow’,” said Viloria on how they reacted to the sudden popularity they have gained.
“Gulat kami kasi hindi namin in-expect, gusto lang namin gumawa ng music. — Nagulat din kami na parang, madaming gumamit ng song, may choreography yung song, eh parang, wala namang sumasayaw sa amin. – Masaya kami na maraming tumatangkilik ng kanta namin,” he added.
“Regardless of which song from our catalog you’re picking, whether it’s Uhaw, Sansinukob, Maskara, I feel like there is a unique message, unique feeling conveyed through our song,” said Leon Almonte, the guitarist, sharing a message to their fans during the interview.
“If you’re looking for a unique message, unique feeling, we recommend our music,” added Leon.
Despite multiple iconic live performances and appearances at music events and a hit track, ‘Uhaw’ with now 35 million streams on Spotify, according to the frontman, Dilaw Obrero, the limelight does make little to no difference in how they feel about their music.
“Walang nagbago, yung feeling namin ngayon, parang feeling lang namin dati,” said Dilaw.
Dilaw recently released their much-awaited debut EP under Warner Music Philippines entitled, Sansinukob.
