On May 4, Kapamilya actor-director Coco Martin admitted he felt surprised by the high ratings of FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
At the media conference for FPJ’s Batang Quiapo‘s new chapter, which LionhearTV covered, Martin disclosed that he doubted that he could replicate the success of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
“Actually, sobra ako ng na-surprise kasi noong ginagawa namin ang Ang Probinsyano, sabi ko, sigurado ako hindi ko na mauulit ‘to. ‘Yung ganong experience.”
He then noted that the high ratings of Batang Quiapo were unexpected, especially without ABS-CBN’s free TV franchise.
“Pero ngayon, base doon sa mga lumabas sa Batang Quiapo, mas malakas pa siya kaysa doon sa Ang Probinsyano. Kasi, noong pumasok ‘yung Ang Probinsyano noon, hindi naman naging ganon ang ratings eh, noong nawala ‘yung prangkisa ng ABS. Ngayon, kahit na wala ang prangkisa, maganda ‘yung ratings na binibigay ng show. Kaya nakakatuwa.”
He also pointed out the online success of the Kapamilya action drama.
“Lalong lalo na ‘yung mga–tumaas ng tumaas ‘yung mga views sa YouTube, nakaka-surprise. Sobrang saya at sobrang pasasalamat lahat kami, sa bumubuo ng Batang Quiapo.”
FPJ’s Batang Quiapo recently achieved a record-breaking TV rating of 14.0 in April 2023.
Aside from that, Martin also discussed what he learned from FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano that he’s applying in the production of Batang Quiapo.
“Ngayon kasi through the experience ko sa Ang Probinsyano, dinadahan-dahan ko, kasi mahirap ‘yung kapag na-excite ka, nag-lagay ka ng isang ano, tapos sa dulo, sabi ko nga po, naging problema ko ‘yan sa Ang Probinsyano, na-ubusan ako ng actors, halos lahat na-guest ko na sa Ang Probinsyano, kaya ngayon natuto akong magdahan-dahan.”
FPJ’s Batang Quiapo stars Martin (actor-director-writer) with the Supreme Actress Lovi Poe.
