Filipino-Chinese and Kapuso actor Ken Chan, known for his unconventional roles in TV series such as ‘Destiny Rose’ and ‘My Special Tatay’, is set to showcase his acting prowess again in his upcoming film ‘Papa Mascot’.
In a recent press conference attended by LionhearTV at Café Claus Tandang Sora last April 10, Chan expressed his pleasure in being part of stories with unconventional roles.
“Dito po ay wala akong standard na ka-loveteam talaga, kaya naninibago po ako nung una. But at the same time, masaya po ako, kasi isa rin po talaga sa goal ko na magkaroon ng pelikula na hindi focus sa love team, yung focus ay sa storya talaga,” the actor shared. He added, “Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na nakakagawa po ako ng mga storya na out-of-the-box, tipong storya na sinasabi nilang edgy.”
Ken Chan played a transwoman in ‘Destiny Rose’, for which he received multiple acting nominations. He won the “Best Actor” award at the 2016 Box Office Entertainment Awards for the role.
In ‘My Special Tatay’, he portrayed Boyet, as a person with an intellectual disability. He received awards for his role including “Best Lead Performance in a TV Series” from Gawad Tanglaw.
Additionally, he also played a person with dissociative identity disorder, a mental health condition with two or more separate identities, in his past TV show Ang Dalawang Ikaw.
Ken Chan established his showbiz career as a co-host and performer on German Moreno’s Walang Tulugan with Master Showman.
Ken Chan on his upcoming role in ‘Papa Mascot’
In ‘Papa Mascot’, Chan takes on the role of a father to a 6-year-old child, presenting a fresh challenge for him.
“First time kong makagawa ng isang materyal na mayroon akong anak na 6-years-old, — wala pa akong alam kung paano maging ama. Kasi ang 6-year-old nakakapagbigay na yan ng emosyon,” Ken Chan shared this as one of his challenges in accepting the role of Papa Mascot.
Furthermore, director, Louie Ignacio shared, “Sa trailer, kung makikita niyo ang dungis-dungis niya (Ken Chan). Kailangan maramdaman yung kahirapan. — Isa siyang masipag na ama, na nagmamahal sa anak.”
Ken Chan is one of the most versatile actors of his generation. Besides, he showcased his talent and range again. His exceptional performances have proven his ability to break boundaries and take on challenging roles.
Louie Ignacio directed ‘Papa Mascot’, starring Ken Chan himself. Starting April 26, Ken Chan’s ‘Papa Mascot’ will be shown in Philippine theaters.
