Yeng Constantino wants to mentor Janine Berdin, Janella Salvador

On February 27, singer and Academy of Rock’s global ambassador Yeng Constantino expressed her interest in mentoring fellow Kapamilya artists Janine Berdin and Janella Salvador.

At the contract signing event with the Academy of Rock, Constantino said she saw a younger version of herself in Berdin.

“Alam ninyo po ang isa po talaga sa mga gusto ko sa ASAP na bata, si Janine– Janine Berdin. Talagang there’s just something about her, parang nakikita ko po ‘yung batang ako. Even po ‘yung time na parang na-confuse ako sa genre ko, nakikita ko sa kaniya ‘yung transitioning into what she wants to do in her music and her image. And I think nandoon po siya.”

She also noted Berdin’s potential as a successful music artist.

“And nakikita ko rin po ‘yung posts niya recently about sa grab niya– ‘yung last year niya na Spotify and ‘yung Spotify niya this year. Sobrang grabe ‘yung reaction. And nanggaling po ‘yung dahil she’s writing her own songs now. And gumawa siya ng spotify playlist na may mga kanta niya.

“So if I would mentor someone, that would be her, kasi po talagang napakalaki ng potential niya and you see her hunger, you see her passion. Exciting ‘yung mga ganong bata na maturuan, kasi alam mo na kung ano ‘yung tinanim mo tutubo.”

Aside from Berdin, Constantino also wanted to mentor Janella Salvador, praising the Valentina star’s vocal talents.

“Isa pa pong artist na gusto ko din– alam ninyo po ba na napakagaling kumanta ni Janella Salvador, sobra po ‘yan. Parang hindi pa po niya napapakita lahat. Kaya po niyang kumanta ng theater, kaya po niyang kumanta ng Pop, kaya po niyang kumanta ng Ballad.”

She stated that she could guide Salvador in honing her image as an artist if the Kapamilya actress decided to pursue a music career.

“So kung dumating po sa point ng career niya na gusto niyang ilabas ‘yung side niya na ‘yun, nandito lang si Ate Yeng niya. Mag-iinvest ako sayo day! Sobrang gusto ko po siya, noong narinig ko lang siya one time na kumakanta sa dressing room, ‘Oh my God, ganon pala siya kagaling.’

“I think she’s better than me when it comes to belting pa nga eh. Pero kung may mai-impart man ako sa side, siguro ‘yung projection, siguro more on sa side na ‘yun and ‘yung pag-hone sa imahe na gusto niya, kung paano ‘yung ipapakita niya ‘yung music side niya sa mga tao.”

Present at the contract signing event are Yeng Constantino, AOR President/Founder Priscila Teo, and shareholders Jonathan Manalo, Jeff M. Vadillo, Rox Santos, and Jacinto Gan Jr.

Academy of Rock is the only music school in Singapore dedicated to teaching rock and popular music. Its mission is to raise the musicality of Singapore’s youth–and to promote rock music appreciation through a fun learning approach.

Constantino first became their ambassador in 2013.

As for her career, the Kapamilya singer entered the music scene when she won the first season of Pinoy Dream Academy. From then on, she became one of the prominent music artists in the country, especially with her songs; Salamat, Hawak Kamay, and Ikaw.
