On March 20, Working Boys 2 director Paolo O’Hara discussed the differences between Working Boys 2 to Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon’s 1985 Working Boys.
At the media conference for Working Boys 2: Choose Your Papa at Vertis North, Quezon City, O’Hara clarified how the creatives of the upcoming Viva film veered away from the 1985 Working Boys.
“Wala, sinadya naming wala, kaya noong una, apat sila diyan eh, iniwasan naming maging tatlo kasi nga Tito, Vic, and Joey. So ginawa naming apat, tapos nagdagdag pa kami, naging lima pa, para totally hindi isipin na ito si Tito.”
He then explained that the film pulled inspiration from Tito, Vic, and Joey’s comedy film.
“Inspired by instead of a remake. Parang doon galing ‘yung seed ng idea na it’s about the brotherhood of these boys na looking–trying to survive this harsh environment that we live in. Parang, more on inspiration than a remake, kasi ang hirap i-remake ng Tito, Vic, and Joey.”
He then discussed the project’s conception, with Viva Entertainment head Vic Del Rosario suggesting that they derive the title from the 1985 film.
“Na-conceive kasi ‘to kasi kami ni Randy ‘yung writer, mayroon siyang concept, mayroon akong concept tapos noong binato namin ‘yung concept pareho, sabi ni Boss Vic, bakit hindi na lang gawing Working Boys 2, total pasok naman. So doon pumasok ‘yung Working Boys 2: Choose Your Papa. It’s actually two concepts merged into one. Tapos ayun na, naisip namin na since ganon, gawin na namin siyang parang inspired by Tito, Vic, and Joey’s Working Boys 1 ‘yung original.”
Their upcoming film, Working Boys 2: Choose Your Papa stars Wilbert Ross, Mikoy Morales, Vitto Marquez, Andrew Muhlach, and Nikko Natividad.
The cast also features Bayani Agbayani, Angela Morena, Debbie Garcia, Lea Jane, Angelic Guzman, Divine Aucina, Bob Jbeili, Marissa Sanchez, and Juliana Parizcova Segovia.
Under the direction of Paolo O’Hara, Working Boys 2: Choose Your Papa, opens in cinemas nationwide on March 29.
