The Villainess Team is the reigning champion of the #PinayDinMalakas Pokemon Unite, an all-woman esports community tournament joined by eleven (11) different teams, last March 18 to 19, 2023.
Aces and Draco, a gaming community group focused on creating Pokemon Unite tournaments, held the following game rules: Double Elimination (which consists of 5 rounds of upper bracket and 6 rounds of lower bracket), Best of Three (where winners will move to Best of Five at Grand Finals), and All-woman Esports Community Tournament. The Villainess completed all these game rules making them the first champions of this unprecedented tournament. Their pokemon picks for the grand finals were Sylveon, Espeon, Clefable, Wigglytuff, and Blastoise. “The pokemons that we used during the final game were not our comfort pick” Leizeii, The Villainess captain, said, “OMO Ragdolls were strategic to remove our comfort picks and pushed us to our limits.” she added.
For the Double Elimination tournament, the team who will win all 4 rounds of the upper bracket and the team who will win all the 6 rounds of the lower bracket battles will be eligible to become a contender to vie for the Championship in the 5th round of upper bracket.
Notably during the 3rd round of the Double Elimination upper bracket, OMO Ragdolls successfully won against the Villainess which relegated their ranking to the lower bracket, but the Villainess crawled their way up to the 6th round of the lower bracket or the semi-finals where they defeated RK Sakura giving them the opportunity to have a rematch with OMO Ragdolls in the championship. This strong comeback made the Villainess score 3-1 against OMO Ragdolls. A strategic move that made them the first ever champions of the All-Woman Pokemon Unite Community Esport Tournament in the Philippines.
“[The] power of friendship is the key to success,” Leizeii said when she was asked what was the secret ingredient to their triumph. “Trust is the most important thing that you need to have with your teammate, like what I said, they trusted me even though I never used Sylveon during our practices.” she added.
The Villainess rosters are the following: Leizeii, central and the captain; Maiden Bishop, attacker; Evermore, defender/all rounder; Icke, attacker; Dio, support; and Gnoelle, defender. Before the team formed when Aces and Draco first announced the All-Woman Pokemon Unite Community Esport Tournament, they were streamers playing together on different social platforms. Until then, they decided to join as a team and were coached by Olanams and The Villains Pokemon Unite Team.
As a result of their determination, strategy, and trust, The Villainess team brought home Php 5,000 cash with 5,000-worth of Razer Gold vouchers, a Razer Kraken V3 to the MVP, customized trophies for each player, and an exclusive article published on Lionheartv’s website.
