At the media event for the theater production ‘DickTalk’ on February 21, Kapuso star Mikoy Morales discussed the message of his role to people doubting others’ sexual orientation.
Morales talked about how his character would start a conversation about respecting people’s sexuality.
He pointed out, “But the thing is, parang ano nga ba ‘yung mga tinitignan natin sa pagkatao ng isang lalaki, para masabi or ma-confirm na kung ano ba talaga ‘yung sexual orientation niya. So parang ‘yun ‘yung gusto kong ipalaro at mapatunayan ni Cecil sa play na ‘to.”
He also urged people not to put others in a box or categorize them based on stereotypes.
Morales also expressed his hopes of breaking the cycle of toxic masculinity, especially when discussing social issues.
He reiterated, “I’m specifically talking about doon sa mga mayroong rooted na toxic ‘yung masculinity nila and doon na rooted pa rin sa mga previous recurring traumas nila siguro before, na let’s break the cycle, let’s break the cycle, let’s stop raising generations na hindi pinag-uusapan ‘yung mga mahihirap na pag-usapan na mga bagay.”
Pulling inspiration from the 1996 production ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ the creation of Edwin Vinarao, with Ara Vicencio and Benj Cruz Garcia, presents five characters embodying unique yet highly relatable stories of men – a teenager (Gold Aceron), a trans man (Nil Nodalo), a sex worker (Jake Cuenca), a metrosexual (Mikoy Morales), and an old man (Archi Adamos).
Under the direction of Phil Noble, with producers V-Roll Media Ventures and Trifecta Brand Lab, DickTalk stages ten shows during its limited run at the RCBC Theater from April 15-23, 2023.
