The 25-year-old seemingly exposed what could be her ‘pent-up feelings’ over not getting what she wanted in her career, during her 13-year tenure, as an exclusive Kapamilya star.
Liza Soberano was a trending topic again online on March 6, following the release of Bea Alonzo’s vlog. Recorded on February 21, or almost a week, before Soberano’s explosive announcement on February 26, the vlog had the actress answering fiery questions from Alonzo, about her career, especially under ABS-CBN.
In the said vlog, Soberano shared some of the decisions she did make herself, that made her feel as if she had no say in her career. She detailed some of those uncontrolled decisions, that she had to endure, in the past 13 years.
“It’s kind of sad that people think hindi natuloy ang mga project namin because of me, when it wasn’t true,” she began, before sharing some details about her canceled projects in ABS-CBN, including the series, Make It With You.
The series is among the Kapamilya shows that got postponed, due to the pandemic, before ultimately getting canceled.
“I was willing to continue it, but it was a very uncertain time. The story would not have made sense, kasi lahat ng senior stars na kasama namin, hindi puwede mag-taping, lahat ng bata hindi puwede,” she shared.
LizQuen took their chance to take a break from showbiz, following the cancellation of the primetime series, whose majority of scenes were shot in the European country of Croatia.
Soberano announced her shift to a new management, James Reid’s Careless, in July, last year, formalizing her departure from ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, which co-managed her career, along with Ogie Diaz, for over a decade.
During the time LizQuen was not under the showbiz limelight, the couple was offered to do the Filipino remake of the South Korean drama, It’s Okay Not To Be Okay, but they declined the project, as revealed by Diaz.
Soberano also took her time to share about her ‘finger’ injury, which ultimately forced her to back out of the Darna project. She claimed that the management forbade her from speaking about it.
“I was so frustrated about that because I got injured on the set of Bagani. I wasn’t allowed to talk about it for some reason ‘coz I had to go to the States, and I was not posting for a long time,”
Fans, however, recalled when she had her chance to talk about the issue in an interview with Boy Abunda. Clips of the said interview quickly resurfaced on Twitter.
“Rebranding ba or My Amnesia Girl? Ignacia even paid for their Air B&B, ” tweeted @KafosoMo, who attached the clip of Soberano’s interview.

One of the hot topics that Alonzo’s vlog tackled, was the film Hello Love, Goodbye, which as Soberano revealed, was offered to her and Gil first, before Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards.
“I wanted to do that movie so bad, but then they were like, ‘there were like, there’s another project lined up for the both of you, tapos while we’re doing Bagani, nabalitaan ko na… at first, they offered it to Kathryn and Quen,” she told Alonzo, admitting the news made her feel scared, as she wanted to do it with her real-life partner.
KathNiel fan, @dxb_fan, was among the first to come to Bernardo’s defense, sharing a clip taken from a Thanksgiving event for the film, where Kathryn revealed how she secured the role.
“Tumawag si Direk Cathy kay Kath para sabihin na gusto niya gawin ni Kath yung project.
“Them: Sinulot,” his caption reads, referring to several claims made by LizQuen fans that Bernardo ‘loop-hunted’ (sulot) the role.

“Nang napalalim ang Hello, Love, Goodbye kaya naging OFW movie na, bukod tanging si Kathryn Bernardo ang naenvision ni Inang Olive Lamasan na gumanap bilang Joy.
Patunay na hindi pumalya ang instinct nina Inang Olive, Carmi at CGM? Nakatatak na si Joy sa PH cinema,” shared @OfficialKPEx, reminding netizens that the showrunners, themselves, handpicked Bernardo for her role, once the plot of the film was completed.

Some fans also called out those who dragged Bernardo’s name into Soberano’s issues.
“Tama na kayo sa pagddrag kay Kathryn Bernardo tangina niyo. Hindi porket nanatili siya sa ka love team niya ay pwede niyo na siya idiscredit!
“Kahit ano pang sabihin, wala sa mga idol niyo ang naabot ang naabot niya kaya matuto kayo rumespeto!”
