The Kapamilya executive broke his silence on Liza Soberano’s rebranding and ‘ungratefulness’ issues and advised every aspiring talent going through confusing times like Soberano.
ABS-CBN Head of TV Production and Star Magic Laurenti M. Dyogi finally said his piece on what could be the hottest showbiz item dominating the current local entertainment scene—Liza Soberano. During the contract signing of the seven-member Hori7on pop group, at ABS-CBN’s ELJ Center, last March 9, the Kapamilya executive took his chance of sharing his perspective on what the former Star Magic actress must be going through.
“I think because Liza is also, remember she’s still in the first quarter of a hundred-years of lfe; siguro nag-quaquarterlife questioning siya. So, we allow her to explore and aspire for something better for herself,” the executive said when asked about his thoughts.
According to Dyogi, the former 25-year-old Kapamilya star was already contemplating on what to do next in her career, when he took over the reins in Star Magic, but he could remember how the agency was very patient with Soberano.
“Si Liza kasi even before, we’ve been pitching her concepts eh. Actually ako naman, when I came into the picture, Star Magic, ano na ‘yun, pandemic time na. That time, Liza was already contemplating, you know, nagse-self ano na siya ‘nun..introspection,” he shared.
That said, the Kapamilya executive clarified that he did not get offended, but shared that he chose to look at the better side.
“But taking it as it is, she’s just saying that she wants to find her own self and she wants to explore it in her own terms, and we should allow that because it’s her life, it’s her choices,” he said.
Given that he currently heads ABS-CBN’s talent management arm, Star Magic, Dyogi could not escape the question of whether he is worried that some of the young artists in his stable, might emulate Soberano’s shocking career flip, in the future.
“I think parang athletes din ‘yan eh. If you want to attain excellence, there are some things that you have to give up. There is a choice naman actually in life eh; you can go through that hardship early on, so you go through a difficult life and later on, get into something that would benefit you,” the executive explained, noting that the intensive training that the Hori7on boys are set to go through, is something necessary in their bid to become excellent artists in the future.
“The earlier you get into show business, you get into the training and into the practice…mas mahaba pa ang potential mo to really hone your talent and skills,” he added.
Be that as it may, Dyogi expressed preparedness for talents who may decide to leave the network in the future, in hopes of finding new venues to better their craft. He said he wishes them luck, and that the network will always be open for those who want to come back.
“ABS-CBN will always be open for Liza. We’ve offered her a lot of projects in the past and we’ve very patient to wait for what choices she would make, and ultimately she decided to do international projects. We wish her well,” he shared, stating his parting message with the former Star Magic talent.
Soberano, who has already left for the United States, is yet to respond to Dyogi’s statements.
