At the media conference for his first Star Music single, ‘Ulit-Ulit,’ on March 1, Kapamilya singer Jason Dy recalled the changes he experienced after winning The Voice Season 2.
Dy admitted that he initially felt that he didn’t deserve his win during the reality singing competition. He explained, “It comes na rin with the experience mo, and yung age mo. Hindi na ako masyadong ma– imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome na parang feeling ko hindi ko siya deserve, masyado kong dina-down ‘yung sarili ko. Like even on the voice, I felt like should I be here, like deserve ko ba na nandito ako or deserve ko ba na manalo ako after winning The Voice.”
Eventually, he learned to be more kind and uplifting to himself. As a result, he has learned to avoid negativity, such as putting himself down. His realization was that it had not helped him at all.
He also noted how he overcame self-doubt and became a more confident performer.
He shared, “Kailangan mo lang talaga makinig sa sarili mo and try not to be influenced by the negativity out there, especially online, maraming mga bashers, may mga ano…Ngayon medyo better na, I’m still working on it, but it’s a lot better, I’ve come a long way since eight years ago.”
Admittedly, he encountered a low point during the pandemic. He narrated, “What comes to mind ay ‘yung ano talaga, ‘yung the pandemic, where everything was halted talaga, talagang tumigil lahat. And nawalan ng trabaho, nawalan ng mga raket, so siyempre talagang ano ‘yun talaga, it was a dark point in my life and my career as a singer, as an artist, kasi we’re probably the last ones to get back, go back to normal, kasi ‘yun nga unahin muna natin ‘yung mga essentials talaga.”
He reminisced about how much he enjoyed performing in front of a live audience. He admitted that he missed performing live on ASAP; he missed the reactions and appreciation of the audience. Doing all performances via the Zoom app is very different from doing them live.
He won the second season of The Voice Philippines in March 2015. He then became a mainstay performer and singer on the Kapamilya network.
Dy’s latest Star Music single, ‘Ulit-Ulit,’ became available on music streaming platforms starting March 1. He also released a follow-up music video for the song on March 3.
