At the set visit for Teen Clash in Quezon City on March 22, Kapamilya artist Gail Banawis remembered how director Cathy Garcia-Molina called her out during one of her scenes.
Banawis recounted working with Garcia-Molina after exiting the Pinoy Big Brother House, wherein she still had challenges speaking in Filipino.
“Hi Direk Cathy. There was a time kasi fresh out of PBB pa ako noon, and I’m from America so hindi pa ako fluent sa Tagalog at that time, so nabubulol pa ako. Minsan si Direk Cathy kasi may style kasi siya na biglaan na she would change the lines, so I didn’t get like to exercise my tongue enough for it and everything.”
She detailed how the box office director scolded her for not completing a scene.
“Sobrang naano siya– to the point na she was cursing, na parang ‘uhhmmm, ayusin mo yan, Rica’ because that was my role at the time. And tulad po ng natanggal na lang po ‘yung line ko. But it was fine. Afterwards, we spoke about it. She was telling me na ‘yun nga because I was reading and everything.”
She then noted her realization of keeping her composure and what she learned in acting.
“But what is important is keep your composure– so that if you’re emotional, everyone get’s affected. But of course, afterwards, umiyak din ako, but I learned so, so much from Direk Cathy. So thank you for yelling at me– it’s a badge of honor.”
