The Tongan-born Filipino actor and TV host, Eric Tai, also known as “Eruption”, expressed his gratitude to ABS-CBN’s ‘It’s Showtime’ despite being let go by the show.
In a YouTube interview with broadcaster Julius Babao on February 23, Eruption revealed that he was let go because of the show’s reformatting in 2016.
Eruption narrated, “Papasok na ako ng Showtime tapos kinuha ako ng producer. Ang sabi niya, kung pwede daw mag meeting muna. Umakyat kami sa taas and I was like, ’Uy, ba’t aakyat sa taas?”
He said he already had a feeling that something was going on when the producer expressed, “Pasensya na, Eric, na nagkaroon kame ng reformat and hinde na kailangan ‘yung full services mo dito.”
Eruption respected the decision and expressed his gratitude to the show.
Eruption shared, “I took it on the chin and I said, ‘Thank you kasi kilala na ako dahil sa inyo.’ And I’ll always hold that to my heart na, ‘Showtime, maraming salamat.” He furthered, “Direk Bobet, thank you so much. And Vice, everyone there, thank you because I’m known as ‘Eruption’ and I have a name now. Dahil sa inyo, I have… I was able to get endorsements [and] my social media following jumped.”
Eric “Eruption” Tai came as a guest judge on ‘It’s Showtime’ back in 2012 but later became a full-time host. He is currently busy with his career as a content creator. On Facebook, he has over 3 million followers and on YouTube, he has 200k.
