At a media conference for Sparkle artists on February 16, Kapuso star David Licauco reacted to the awards and recognition received by Maria Clara at Ibarra.
Licauco expressed gratitude for the recognition from the Platinum Stallion National Media Awards, organized by the Trinity University of Asia.
“Nanalo ‘yung Maria Clara at Ibarra ng awards, Best Primetime Series, I think, tapos si Barbie nanalo siya ng Best Actress, si Dennis Trillo nanalo ng Best Actor, si Andrea Torres nanalo ng Best Supporting Actress and ako ng Best Supporting Actor. So, ayun, very, very thankful.”
He noted that the awards would serve as an inspiration for the cast.
“Kagaya ng sinabi nila na kapag galing daw sa isang school ang award ay wala siyang bias. So, siyempre, extra special din for me and everyone na nakatanggap kami ng ganong klaseng award, so it will serve as an inspiration for me na pag-husayan pa ‘yung trabaho namin bilang artista.”
He then acknowledged the opportunity he received when he landed the role of Fidel, giving credit to the series’ creatives.
“Kumbaga sinuwerte rin lang ako na sa akin nabigay ‘yung role na Fidel and kahit sinong artista na magpe-play ng role na ‘yun, mapupunta rin siya sa situation where I am right now. So, I’m just grateful na sa akin napunta.
“And credits to the directors, ang ganda po kasi ng mga shots, imagine mo ‘yung mga shots namin, for example, ‘yung mga romantic scenes, kung di nila trinabaho ‘yun, di rin naman siya magtre-trend, di rin ako makikilala. So nasa writers, directors pa rin ‘yung credit talaga dapat.”
Maria Clara at Ibarra, starring Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, Julie Anne San Jose, and Licauco, airs its series finale on February 24.
As for his film with fellow Kapuso star Shaira Diaz, Without You is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
