On March 23, artist-singer CJ de Guzman recalled getting betrayed by her friends.
At the media conference for CBN Asia’s much-anticipated Holy Week special, Tanikala, which LionhearTV covered, de Guzman cited how securing her identity helped her overcome the feeling of betrayal.
“I feel like nangyari na rin siya sa akin and it hurts so much, umiiyak, nag-open dito? Hindi pero, what I’m thankful about is laking kids church po kasi ako.
“So parang bago po ako pumasok ng showbiz, nagplant na po ako ng seed, na founded na po ako kumbaga ng you know, ‘yung identity ko, hindi ko na iiaasa sa kung ano ang sasabihin ng iba. ‘Yung pananaw ko hindi maapektuhan kung ano ‘yung gusto ng ibang tao sa — na maging pananaw ko. And kung masaktan man nila ako, hindi ‘yun ‘yung magde-define sa akin, or how will they see.”
She also noted how her self-identity gave her a strong foundation when she entered showbiz.
“So ‘yung identity na ‘yun, ‘yung security na ‘yun helped me, kung na mairaos, ‘yung showbiz. Kasi ang reality ko, sa showbiz sobrang dami po niyang boses, sobrang daming boses, sobrang daming lies, sobrang daming offers, do this, do this, and you will be this.
“So if yung security ninyo ay hindi masyadong firm, pwede kang ma-sway, pwede kang masira, pwede kang ma-depress, pwedeng idefine mo ‘yung sarili mo kung paano ka nila i-define.”
She then discussed the benefits of forgiving people who wronged her.
“So same thing as ‘yung betrayal po, parang hirap, parang ang sakit-sakit kung ibe-betray ka ng isang tao, but because I thank God na dahil nga founded nga po ako, noong time po na nangyari siya sa akin, it hurts so bad but at the same time ang daling magpatawad.
“Ang daling magpatawad, kasi hindi nakabase ‘yung pagpapatawad sa kung ano ‘yung ginawa niya sa akin, pero naka-base ‘yung pagpapatawad kung paano pinatawad ni Jesus at kung paano ko ibibigay sa kaniya na hindi naman niya hiningi ‘yun.
“Ang beauty po kasi ng papapatawad is hindi ‘yung mag-gagain ‘yung– kunyari siya ‘yung naka-offend sa akin, siya ‘yung naka-betray sa akin, hindi ang magge-gain noon ay siya, ang mag-gain noon ay ikaw. Kasi kung hindi ka magpapatawad, ikaw ‘yung nakakulong. Because once you give that forgiveness, you will have that freedom.”
