Months after being involved in the much-talked-about cake-smearing blunder–the vlogger and TV host Alex Gonzaga may still be haunted by it.
In January, Gonzaga was heavily criticized across all social media platforms after the video of her smearing cake on a waiter during her birthday bash went viral.
Most recently, her only regular TV show, ‘Lunch Out Loud (Tropang LOL)’, is said to be bidding goodbye due to poor TV ratings. According to rumors, the show’s executive producer has already announced the show’s ending during their meeting on March 23.
In an episode of his YouTube show Ogie Diaz Showbiz Update on March 23, comedian-host and talent manager Ogie Diaz also shared his insight about the rumors.
According to Diaz, LOL will have its last taping day on March 29, and its last episode will have its final airing on April 29.
“Ang balita nga natin ay ito, magpapaalam na sa ere ang Lunch Out Loud. Ang LOL ay magba-baboo na sa ere. Basta may nagchika lamang sa atin na ang last day of taping nila ay March 29 so ang last airing ng kanilang tinake ay magtatapos sa April 29. Kung tama ang ibinalita sa atin,” Ogie said.
While Bayani Agbayani, her co-host in LOL, may be back in ABS-CBN’s mystery singing game show, I Can See Your Voice, Gonzaga was left behind without any offers from the Kapamilya network.
Meanwhile, the producer of LOL is said to be in negotiations with a new mainstream network; however, the television network bosses are not keen to take in the noontime show for company reasons.
Prior to the news about Gonzaga’s noontime show’s demise, the cake-smearing blunder seemed to affect her product endorsements also.
According to veteran entertainment columnist Cristy Fermin, most of Alex’s product endorsements didn’t renew their contracts.
In an episode of her YouTube show Showbiz Now Na! on January 23, Fermin discussed rumors that large advertising agencies opted not to hire Gonzaga again for their commercial campaigns.
“May kwento rin na kumakalat ngayon, gusto kong paniwalaan. Kasi sa mundo nagpapa-survey sila sa mga mamimili. Sa merkado kapag inalok nila ang isang artista ng isang produkto, kailangan gusto ng mamimili.
“May balita na si Alex wala na ang pumipila, kumukuha sa kanya sa advertising. Puro independent lang daw ang meron si Alex ngayon. Pero ‘yung malalaki talaga na ahensya wala na, walang kukuha sa kanya,” said Fermin.
