At the media conference for ‘Walang KaParis’ on March 16, Italian-Filipino actress Alessandra de Rossi joked about having doubts regarding comedian actor Empoy Marquez taking on an acting piece.
De Rossi recounted her reaction after reading ‘Walang KaParis’s script and her conversation with their director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo.
She shared, “Ito ang initial reaction ko, ‘Hello, Direk? Acting piece to ha?’ ‘Oo nga.’ ‘Kaya ba ni Empoy.’ ‘Ako na bahala sa kaniya, kaya ko na ‘yan. Ako pa ba?'”
Bernardo backed up De Rossi’s statement, citing how she felt after her call with the actress. She recalled, “Si Alex talaga, ‘yun talaga ‘yung minention niya sa akin tapos after ng pagbaba namin ng phone talaga, parang kinabahan ako doon.”
Marquez echoed De Rossi’s concerns about him doing a dramatic scene in the film.
“O, ako naman, di naman talaga ako nagbabasa ng script talaga, simula noong nag-start ako mag-artista noong way back ano, hindi ako talaga nag babasa ng script, pero binasa ko ‘tong script. Tinignan ko lang, finast-forward ko. Tapos tinawagan ko si Direk, ‘Direk, ang ganda.’
Then he would doubt if he could actually do it; not his forte, not comedy but “drama”.
He thought,“Kaya ko ba ‘yun?’ Hindi, inisip ko sa sarili ko na ako bahala doon.”
The director however maintained that Marquez was a responsible actor on set.
Bernardo revealed that the comedy actor would always ask for validation about his acting. She furthered, “They’re both responsible naman as actors.”
De Rossi and Marquez, who starred in ‘Kita Kita,’ reunite in their upcoming Prime Video film, ‘Walang KaParis.’
Directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, under the co-production of Spring Films and Viva Films, ‘Walang KaParis’ streams on Prime Video starting March 23.
