On February 2, deputy general manager of Viu Philippines Vinchi Sy-Quia and ABS-CBN’s head of digital Jamie Lopez emphasized how they value relevant content.
At the media event for Finecast On Air, industry experts discussed the ever-changing taste of the Philippine audience for relevant content.
Sy-Quia highlighted VIU’s partnership with ABS-CBN and GMA Network, citing how they listen to their audience.
“Partnering with ABS-CBN, and even the other network, GMA [Network], they’re the experts in producing content, and that’s integral in our business. GMA also talked about data and what our audience wants. And that’s really been Viu’s mantra is really listening to our audience.”
He then detailed how VIU pays attention to Twitter Trends to discover what the viewers want.
“We’ve always [been] centered on that Asian Premium category, and part of our strategy is [really] to listen to our viewers and what they want. We actually bought content based on Twitter Trending of people saying [that–] ‘Viu can you please bring this title in.’
“And we would have an emergency meeting, saying should we get this for this type of market, and we really pull fast decisions for this market. I think partnerships, managing data, that’s really the future, no.”
Lopez discussed ABS-CBN’s focus on content and cited their partnership with VIU and GMA Network.
“So definitely, over the next two or three years–from an ABS-CBN standpoint, it would really be investing in content, right? The saying, ‘Content is King, Curation is Queen. But it’s really making sure we’re creating relevant content.
“Our partnership with GMA– I mean, who would’ve thought GMA and ABS co-prod together, and Viu, also. I mean, it’s exciting to think about all the things we can do together as an industry, as partners. [And] [being able to]create and promote the Philippine talent [on a global stage.]”
Earlier, Philippines industry experts in the television and marketing industry gathered in Manila to witness the launch of Finecast On Air and discuss the future of television.
