Singaporean singer-songwriter Alicia DC has released her second EP Lovergirl, a four-track pop album inspired by her own experiences and the music that she has been listening to over the past year.
Swapping out the alternative jazz sound of her previous EP Maybe, Alicia DC explores a new direction this time with an electronic pop twist to her music, and lyrics that are more direct and personal. Similar to her first EP, all tracks on this album are written, composed, produced and mixed by Alicia herself.
“With this new EP Lovergirl, I am trying to bring myself into this persona where I am bold, charismatic and playing the character of a lovergirl,” said Alicia DC. “The songs are real stories about my platonic and romantic relationships. Mostly my love life though, and it is about different people who have entered my life and left, or stayed.”
About Each Track In Lovergirl
But I’m Not Angel
“‘But I’m No Angel’ is about a person I met who I had a relationship with, but it ended because the person wanted out really quickly. They were someone who could not be tied down and valued freedom as a top priority, which I respect. I was really fascinated by this person’s view on love and life so I decided to write a song about it! No hard feelings there.
The song is very upbeat, has a bit of a dance groove and is more on the electronic side. I hope listeners can enjoy grooving and dancing to this song!”
Always
“‘Always’ is about me as a friend. I see myself as someone that will ‘always get back to you’. It is a fun pop-funk song that I wrote while thinking of my friends that I love. I hope listeners can find this song relatable, and bop to it!”
Be Mine
“‘Be Mine’ is a song that my first ex challenged me to write when we were still together. The topic was to ‘just be flirtatious’. So I wrote a song to ask someone to ‘be mine’. The production and arrangement of this song was inspired by music from the band Men I Trust. This is intended to be more of a slow jam for the listeners.”
You Already Know
“‘You Already Know’ is a song I wrote to grieve over someone who was giving me mixed signals. This person was aware of my feelings and reciprocated physically, but never addressed the possibility of us being together.
It was a short situationship that I was really sad about, but I framed the song in a happy light because even though I grieved over it, the memories were good.
Similar to “But I’m No Angel”, I focused a lot on sound design, and focused on creating a dancey groove for the song. There will be a music video for this song!”
