On February 1, the regional managing director (SEA Headquarters) at Epson Singapore Siew Jin Kiat highlighted why businesses choose sustainable products nowadays.
At the media conference for Epson’s Unlock the Future opening ceremonies, Kiat noted how governments and the stock markets require businesses to disclose their ESGs ( Environment, Social, and Governance)
“I think the slant of businesses towards sustainable products. I think it’s this awareness of sustainability and the impact [that it has for] us into the future. Not just for consumers– but also for government regulations also.
“I think, in many other countries also, we are seeing stock markets requiring a list of companies to talk about their ESGs, the Environment, Social, and Governance, the kind of activities in the organizations, and how we are addressing it.”
He also attributed the push for sustainability from the consumers.
“I think–one of the [key] things is, of course, the environment. As I mentioned, this push from the consumers [as well as] governments are driving companies towards this sustanability path. I think it’s [important] for all of us to be aware that– I [think] in the companies, given its economic capabilities, don’t change the way we operate, then I think, it doesn’t spell [a very good] future for us or for our kids in the future.”
He then detailed Epson’s measures in promoting sustainability through their business practices.
“I think that is where the companies are coming from, and I think that is why we are trying to adopt more sustainable practices [as well as] environment-friendly products. I think that’s where we are trying to position ourselves through the products that we have available, not just in the printers. But also, as Mr. Kubota has mentioned, we also have a paper lab that actually recycles used paper.
“And we have this recycled paper. And I believe that we [are able to] have printers, let’s say in the paper lab, we are able to have a closed-loop kind of economy. And I think we are [strongly] positioning ourselves to be able address those kinds of requirements in our marketplace.”
Earlier, Epson released its annual Global Climate Reality Barometer, which surveys a diverse group of people from different backgrounds to gain a deeper understanding of climate change perception.
