In 2020, Congress denied ABS-CBN’s franchise, causing the Kapamilya Network to shut down.
The hearing for the ABS-CBN franchise has ended with results of no violations of tax evasion and unfair labor practices committed by the Network. However, the franchise of the ABS-CBN was still not renewed.
In January 2022, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) announced its grant to Aliw Broadcasting Corporation the authority to use Channel 23.
NTC granted a temporary permit for Advanced Media Broadcasting System Inc., owned by Villar, to do a test broadcast on Channel 2 and operate a television broadcasting system on Channel 16.
