GMA Network is set to premiere its newest action-fantasy series, Mga Lihim ni Urduja, which will compete against the current number-one teleserye, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
Mga Lihim ni Urduja (MLNU) is the reunion project of the second-generation Sang’gres Kylie Padilla, Sanya Lopez, and Gabbi Garcia, who starred in the remake of Encantadia.
The upcoming series will follow the story of Gem, played by Kylie Padilla, a rookie policewoman and Crystal played by Gabbi Garcia, a jewelry designer. They were assigned to work in a special law enforcement operation to recover the priceless heritage jewelry believed to have been used as magical amulets by the legendary Hara Urduja, played by Sanya Lopez.
During their press conference on Friday, February 17, Padilla noted the big difference in their new series from Encantadia. According to her, since MNLU is set in the real world, the fight scenes are more realistic.
“Mas realistic talaga, like ‘yung mga fight scene, and first time ko mag-play ng pulis. It’s a very different place na nanggagaling sa craft, so iba talaga siya.”
Lopez echoed the same sentiment, saying MNLU has a very different flavor compared to Encantadia.
“Gumanap na rin ako before ng warrior princess, malaking bagay ito para kay Urduja, pero iba ang timpla ng ‘Encantadia’ sa ‘Urduja’ at ‘yan ang dapat abangan.”
Meanwhile, MNLU cast members have also graced the return of the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio. Padilla, together with other Sparkle artists, headlined the Kapuso Fiesta at Sunshine Park, Baguio City, also on Friday, February 17.
GMA Regional TV and Synergy first vice president and head and GMA Integrated News acting head Oliver Amoroso, in a statement, said, “GMA Regional TV is proud to bring the stars of the mega-serye Mga Lihim ni Urduja to Baguio this weekend, in celebration of the Panagbenga Festival.
“We are very happy that we are able to be part of the return of Baguio City’s colorful festival. This is just one of the many festivals in the Philippines that GMA Network has been supporting all these years.”
Mga Lihim ni Urduja is set to premiere on February 27, replacing the portal-fantasy series Maria Clara at Ibarra.
Can it avenge the finale-week loss of MCAI to FPJBQ, or will it suffer the same fate as the numerous series fitted against a Coco Martin-led teleserye?
