At the advanced screening of ‘D Aswang Slayerz’ on February 11, actor Mel Martinez admitted that he aspires to surpass his sister seasoned actress Maricel Soriano.
Martinez acknowledged the pressure of being the brother of “The Diamond Star”. The actor expressed, “Pressure pa rin kasi siyempre ano, being the brother of the Diamond Star it’s both an honor, number one, pangalawa, siyempre pressure. Kasi ang laki ng expectations ng tao, ‘Ay kapatid ni Maricel Soriano ‘yan. Hay nako, dapat magaling ‘yan. Ay ganito.’ So parating may pressure, kasi ayaw ko siyang mapahiya sa akin, that’s why I’m always up on my toes whenever I act. Gusto ko siyang maging proud sa akin.”
He then noted that he wanted to surpass Soriano and for his sister to be proud of him.
Martinez added, “Feeling ko mas magaling ako sa kaniya dito, sorry. Ate, sorry ha, alam ko mag-bibirthday ka.”
He then recounted the advice he got from Soriano about building his own name in showbiz.
“Child star pa ako nito, sinabi niya sa akin na, itong pag-aartista mo, huwag mo akong gamitin, gusto ko gumawa ka ng sarili mong pangalan. Kaya kung napansin ninyo noon, forever siyang nasa channel 2, nasan ako nasa channel 7, because I don’t want to use her, I don’t want to be her shadow, kaya pinagsumikap ko na I have to establish my own identity.”
Martinez stars in the comedy-horror film ‘D Aswang Slayerz’ with Mel Athalia Badere and Sharmaine Arnaiz.
The film recently had an advance screening at Sta Lucia East Grand Mall (Cinema 9) on February 11, 2023.
The film also features Christian Antolin, Rosie Bagenben, Fox, Lester Tolentino, Benjie Rosales, Dawn Dupaya, GJ Dorado, and Chelsea Bon.
Directed by Ricky Rivero, ‘D’ Aswang Slayerz’ has a planned theatrical release sometime in March 2023.
