On February 16, Kapuso star David Licauco discussed the match between Maria Clara at Ibarra and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.
At a media conference for Sparkle artists, Licauco acknowledged the closeness of the Kapuso and Kapamilya series with their recent ratings.
“Oo nga nakita ko ‘yung ratings, 12.9 ata kami, 12.5 sila. So ang dikit kasi ‘yung previous–previous na show, ‘yung Darna, medyo malayo, malaki ‘yung difference. So parang nagulat ako, parang nakaka- nagulat ako na 0.4 lang ah.”
He clarified that Maria Clara at Ibarra has a different market than FPJ’s Batang Quiapo while acknowledging the actor-director Coco Martin’s star power.
“Pero, I feel like naman na different ‘yung market eh, kumbaga Maria Clara kumbaga nasa Gen Z side, and pinapanood nila ‘yun because of the history, because of the romantic side. Pero ‘yung sa FPJ, pinapanood ‘yun siguro dahil–ano ba ‘yung istorya nun–action siya. Of course, si Coco Martin ‘yun and malaki na ‘yung napatunayan niya. Kumbaga kung Coco Martin, papanoorin talaga ng mga tao.”
He then asserted that he doesn’t believe in network wars.
“But then for me, hindi naman ako na-challenge or na-insecure, kasi I feel like na build naman namin ‘yung market namin. Kumbaga ‘yung mga viewers namin. At the end of the day, I don’t believe in network wars, as long as we are making people happy and nakakalimutan nila yung mga trabaho at problema nila, okay na ‘yun.”
As for their series, Maria Clara at Ibarra, starring Barbie Forteza, Dennis Trillo, Julie Anne San Jose, and Licauco, is in its final week, with its series finale airing on February 24.
As for his film with Kapuso star Shaira Diaz, ‘Without You‘ is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
