On December 27, seasoned showbiz news reporter Cristy Fermin and her Cristy Ferminute co-host Romel Chika cited that several netizens are looking for Toni Gonzaga’s supporters who seemed absent from the showing of My Teacher.
They tackled the low ticket sales of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022 entry, noting Gonzaga’s online following didn’t translate to My Teacher‘s earnings.
They also pointed out how Vice Ganda and Ivana Alawi’s Partners in Crime outperformed My Teacher during the opening day of MMFF 2022, alluding to the political figures they supported amid the 2022 elections.
The hosts back-peddled, citing that the awards night should help change the leading with the earnings for the film festival.
However, the MMFF 2022 Gabi ng Parangal ended with My Teacher getting only the Gender Sensitivity Award.
Earlier, netizens expressed concerns about whether Gonzaga’s 20th-anniversary concert on January 20, 2023, would have the same turnout as her MMFF2022 film.
Despite being the topic of discussions online, Gonzaga remains radio-silent about their film’s reported performance.
