From Piolo Pascual and Vice Ganda to Andrew E and Alex Gonzaga as guest performers, did the star value of Gonzaga’s concerts go downhill?
Netizens took notice of Toni Gonzaga’s lineup of special guests, during her recently concluded 20th-anniversary concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, on January 20. The concert, which was already two years behind schedule, coincided with her 39th birthday celebration. Andrew E a.k.a. the Master Rapper and her equally controversial younger sister Alex Gonzaga were the biggest stars who graced the stage with special performances.
But as Gonzaga already held several big concerts before the January 20 event, netizens were able to analyze, how the former Pinoy Big Brother host’s star power diminished through the years, by looking at her special guests.
“Grabe, naging outcast na si Toni Gonzaga sa local. She has worked closely with A-list stars like Sam Milby, Piolo, John Lloyd, Coco Martin, Angel Locsin and Bea Alonzo, but ended up with Andrew E as special guest sa flop nyang concert. Sa arte nya, I doubt she wanted him,” tweeted KAE, who remembered the big stars whom Gonzaga previously worked with, and how she managed to get just Andrew E, who is already way behind his prime, as her spacial guest.

Twitter user @theaudreyjane, meanwhile, tweeted a promotional photo of Gonzaga for her 10th-anniversary concert, which then was also at the Araneta Coliseum in 2011.
“Sobrang layo sa 10th anniversary concert nya,” her tweet reads.
The said photo showed the singer-actress had Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Vhong Navarro, Vice Ganda, and Pokwang as her guests.

The same user also posted a poster of one of Gonzaga’s other concerts. This time the one held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in 2014. The concert notably came after the massive success of her movie with Piolo Pascual, the Star Cinema romcom, Starting Over Again, which made her a Box Office Queen in the same year.

Pork Belly brought to attention the many big-time sponsors of Gonzaga’s previous concerts had, and how her most recent almost only relied upon the generosity of select people.
“Bigatin ang mga brand sponsors dati ah.. napaka powerful nya nga talaga dati based sa marketability nya.. ngayon salamat Ninong nalang talaga..im always here for you to make hakot the crowd sabi ni Ninong…” his tweet reads.

The concert producer, and even Gonzaga, herself, are yet to comment on the issue. One must also note that is highly possible that getting Andrew E (who is a local rap icon, by the way) as her biggest special guest was simply a personal choice.
