The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Monday, January 9, the staging of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Summer Edition in April in partnership with the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP). The festival will run for 11 days, from Black Saturday, April 8-18, in cinemas nationwide.

According to Artes, nothing much is different from its December edition, but the distinction is that the entries could cater more to the vacationing students–the Filipino youth.
Due to the “successful” return of MMFF 2022, the push for its summer edition has finally been set in place. Originally the plan was to stage in 2020 but has to take a backseat because of the pandemic.
“We are delighted to announce that we were able to reach our target gross sales amounting to ₱500 million, considering that we are still recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, the 2022 MMFF is a certified box-office hit,” said Atty. Artes.
The deadline for submission of the finished film and other required documents, including the official trailer, clipping, and behind-the-scene documentation–is on January 31 (for early birds). February 17th is its deadliest deadline.
The announcement of the eight official entries for the festival’s summer edition will be on February 24, while the Parade of Stars for the MMFF Summer Edition will be held on April 1, while the Awards Night will take place on April 11.

Selected members of the media received good news from Atty. Romando Artes, MMDA and MMFF overall chairman, named the Top four MMFF 2022 official entries, based on the gross sales receipts, in alphabetical order, which are the following: Deleter, Family Matters, Labyu with an Accent, and Partners in Crime. Though, there was no mention of exact figures.
