On January 9, award-winning director Jose Javier Reyes detailed his advice to actress Dolly de Leon before flying to Hollywood for her Golden Globes nomination.

At the media conference for Tag-Init, which LionhearTV covered, Reyes said he reminded de Leon that she is already a winner in the Philippine entertainment industry with her international recognition.

He also acknowledged de Leon’s talent and achievements as an actress.

He then reiterated the significance of valuing an artist’s talent like how de Leon did with her career.

The first international film star natin, hindi ba? And she got at the age of late ’40s, because she gave value to her talent.”

He also discussed the value of having a mentor figure for younger stars.

“Importanteng importante, sobrang importante, kasi– I keep saying this, may malaking pagkakaiba ang pagiging celebrity and being an artist. If you’re in this business para lang maging sikat ka, at para yumaman ka, maaring sumikat ka, maaring yumaman ka but your career won’t last very long.

As for their film, Tag-Init stars Franki Russell, Yen Durano, Ali Asistio, Clifford Pusing, Aerol Carmelo, Axel Torres, and Marc Acueza.

The Vivamax movie directed by Reyes will stream on January 20 via Vivamax.
