Kapuso director Mark Reyes proudly shared that the CGI for the upcoming live adaptation of Voltes V: Legacy is 100 percent Filipino-made.
During a virtual media conference on January 3, Reyes acknowledged the whole team behind this ambitious project. He then shared his hope that the series would make it not only in the country but also around the globe as it showcased 100 percent Filipino talent and artistry.
“I felt naman I won’t go into something na feeling ko ‘di ko kakayanin or ‘di kakayanin ng mga taong katabi ko, ‘yung koponon na nasa tabi ko matagal ko nang katrabaho ‘yan e and I give kudos to GMA na pumayag sila na sige gawin natin ‘yan because it is the most expensive show that GMA has done.
“So hopefully it’s not only the Philippines that’s the market of this but globally. We market this to the world na wow, proudly 100 percent Filipino made.”
Meanwhile, Reyes also mentioned that he somehow understood people’s reactions to the upcoming series. He expected both support and criticism because it was such a large-scale project.
“It’s the repercussion of doing something this ambitious and how people are going to react. I said it on my Facebook page because someone has to step up.
“Kung ang mentality natin ay crab mentality na ‘Voltes V, gagawin n’yo? ‘Wag n’yo gawin ‘yan, ‘di n’yo kaya ‘yan,’ kelan pa tayo mag-uumpisa? We’ve been left behind by Korea, by Mexico, by India in terms of the global market of doing something like this.”
He then added that, despite all the criticisms about the show, it has to be done as a first step for the Philippines to match other countries, whose TV projects were already recognized globally.
“We have shows now like Maria Clara at Ibarra creating milestones for us. Voltes V is something that may not be that successful but, at least, it’s a first necessary step.
“If we don’t go out there and face this challenge and this maddening crowd, we’ll never get anywhere, ‘di ba? And mali ‘yung ”wag n’yong gawin.’ ‘Wag tayong mag-isip ng gano’n. Walang mangyayari sa Philippine entertainment if we think that way. Kailangan try nating gawin, that should be the attitude that we should have and then support it.
“Here, pinagkagastusan ng network, pinayagan ng Japan, my blessing ng Japan, pinaghirapan namin, hindi namin minadali. Ang daming nagagalit na ang tagal-tagal naman n’yan. At the same time naman, ‘pag minadali n’yo, sasabihin minadali. And here we are, we’re working on it for almost four years so give us a chance to see what we’ve done.”
