On January 17, Kapamilya director Andoy Ranay addressed how Korean Dramas (K-Drama) set the benchmark for teleseryes and series productions.
At the media conference for the Kapamilya revenge-serye Dirty Linen, which LionhearTV covered, Ranay acknowledged that K-dramas already dominated the global entertainment scene.
“Well for the benchmark ng K-Drama, we have to accept the fact na they’re dominating the world. Television, cinema, they’re all over. Nabago nila ‘yung paraan ng pagkukuwento ng isang teleserye, pagpresent ng isang teleserye.”
He then cited previous examples of foreign productions setting phenomena on TV and film.
“Before it was the Mexicans, ‘yung telenovela, but now it’s the K-Drama na phenomenon that is worldwide. It’s happening kahit naman sa Hollywood na ganon na rin naman ‘yung ginagawa nila eh.”
He then maintained that even though they used K-dramas as the benchmark for the production, Dirty Linen remained Filipino-made.
“So ito naman, yes that’s the benchmark but we made it proudly Filipino. Sariling atin. Nandoon pa rin ‘yung touches ng Pinoy teleserye, kung paano gumawa ang mga Filipino. Pero ito dahil nga may benchmark, itataas natin ‘yung antas.
“Medyo mahirap pero, nakaya naman, nagawa naman namin.”
