At the Thanksgiving dinner of the MMFF2022 film ‘Deleter’ on January 11, director Mikhail Red revealed that he’s currently talking with Viva about doing more genre films after the success of the psychological-horror movie.
Red confirmed that moviegoers could expect more diverse genre movies from Viva. He shared, “Siyempre, after the success of Deleter and horror films in MMFF, we’ve been ‘in talks’ with Viva to do more genre projects. So we can’t announce anything officially yet, pero expect more diverse genre films no.”
He added that he told Viva that he wanted to take things even further with his upcoming projects with the entertainment company. He said, “We’re very happy na nag-profit ang Deleter, so parang nagsabi ako sa Viva ng let’s go bigger. Habang may momentum, parang the trick I think is to push more, go bigger with the next project.”
He also expressed excitement seeing that the Pinoy audience seemed more open to genre films.
The director remarked, “Ang exciting, after Deleter ano nga, reception, as a filmmaker na-e-excite ako na open na ‘yung– even ‘yung mainstream audience open na sa ganitong type ng film. So ‘yun nga, anything can happen na eh, you can try different things and try to figure things– exciting times as a genre filmmaker.”
As for the film, ‘Deleter’ won seven awards from MMFF Gabi ng Parangal, such as Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Actress for Nadine Lustre, and Best Picture.
And according to the unofficial tallies, ‘Deleter’ grossed over P234 million, clinching the top spot for MMFF2022.
‘Deleter’ stars Nadine Lustre, McCoy De Leon, Louise delos Reyes, and Jeffrey Hidalgo.
The horror-genre film, directed by Mikhail Red, opened on December 25, 2022, and has since been extended in theaters around the country.
