On December 16, Kapamilya actress Shaina Magdayao stressed the importance of having a business while in showbiz.
At the media conference for Organized Chicas‘ newest line, Magdayao said she was fortunate because she grew up in a family of business-minded people.
“Well, ako, I’m very fortunate na ‘yung pamilya ko ay pamilya ng well– business people, business minded people. Nakuha ko ‘yan sa mga ate ko, especially when they started Ystilo, our family business na hanggang ngayon nandito pa rin.
“So parang at a very young age, ininstill na nga mga parents ko and also my sisters, na ‘yung pera na nakukuha ko from my job, I have to invest it somewhere, because nga hindi forever ang pagiging artista.
“So doon nagsimula ‘yun and I would always tell people na you have to save up. Kasi nga kagaya noong pandemic, hindi natin inexpect na magkakaroon ng pandemya, so hindi rin talaga forever ‘yung industry.”
She also emphasized the importance of being financially prepared, especially with the pandemic.
“Everything has to stop, so you have to save up, and gusto mo rin naman makita na nanganganak din in other ways ‘yung mga pinaghirapan mo. Kasi ito, produkto ito ng puyat, ng luha, ng pagod, so ‘yun, but in my case, I’m very fortunate kasi mga nagagawa kong mga businesses are also my passion project and products that I actually use.”
She then cited the advantages of her celebrity status when she started her business, Organized Chicas.
“It’s an advantage kasi nga siyempre nakikita kami. Ako, it’s really an advantage. Hindi ko kasi siyempre, I can’t speak for everyone, pero I can only speak for myself and my experience, ako kasi whenever I am wearing something, people would always ask, ‘Ano ‘yung suot ko? Saan ko nabili?’
“So sabi ko doon sa partner ko, ‘Alam mo gawa na rin lang talaga tayo ng sapatos at damit, kasi tanong sila ng tanong.’ At least this time, kaya ko ng sabihin na you know, it’s from Organized Chicas and it’s from brands that I really support and love, and a brand that I’m really, really proud of.”
Magdayao and her business partner Niki Medina launched their more adventurous and fun collection for Organized Chicas with the Colore Collection, which included locally sourced and made bags in tones of white, black, and army green.
