At the media conference for Organized Chicas‘ newest line on December 16, Kapamilya actress Shaina Magdayao discussed her return as a dancer on the Kapamilya Sunday noontime show ASAP.
Magdayao recounted her years as a performer before going on hiatus because of her hyperthyroidism.
“And ako, if I think about it, 25 years in the business, isang malaking parte noon, is my being a dancer.
“So I just feel, na perfect timing na bumalik ako. And also, hindi ako tinigilan ng mga taga-ASAP sa pagtatanong nila if ready na ba akong bumalik? Especially, when they saw me loosing weight, kasi nga like what I said, it’s a dream it’s a side of me.
“It’s a part of my life na kinailangan kong talikuran because I got diagnosed with hyper thyroidism, and I was gaining weight and parang to the point na nagkakaroon na ako ng injuries. You know, back injury, ‘yung right knee ko, nagka-MCL na ako because of my weight.”
She also admitted feeling the loss of not being able to dance.
“So it wasn’t healthy, and I wasn’t fit enough to dance anymore, so I had to let go of that dream.
“And then nag-focus na lang ako sa pagiging artista. But ngayon na bumalik ako ngayon ko lang na-realize, sabi ko, ‘Now I feel that a part of me is alive again.’ Like hindi ko– I didn’t feel the loss. Pero ngayon, ngayon ko lang nafe-feel na kung gaanong kalaking side pala ng aking pagkatao ang pagiging dancer. And it’s all really grateful na hindi ako sinukuan ng mga tao ng mga taong taga ASAP.”
She then revisited how the people from ASAP convinced her to return to her passion for dancing.
“‘Yung mga taong bumubuo ng ASAP, they made me ask myself na, ‘Kaya ko na ba talaga?’ ‘Kaya ko na ba bumalik. Number one was that, ‘ Talaga? Sasayaw ako?’
“Pangalawa is kaya ko ba pa, kaya ko pa bang sumayaw, kasi ang sayaw kailangan mo ng disiplina, especially kapag tumatatanda ka na. When I was younger, kaya kong i-juggle ‘yun, I was doing movies, I was doing teleseryes, and also I was doing ASAP and I’ve been doing that since 13 years old, eh 33 na ako. So parang naisip ko, ‘Am I even fit enough to dance again?'”
Magdayao and her business partner Niki Medina launched their more adventurous and fun collection for Organized Chicas with the Colore Collection, which included locally sourced and made bags in tones of white, black, and army green.
