The veteran actor noted his old age and hearing problem, which can probably make him a liability on the set.
Citing his hearing problem and his old age, veteran and award-winning actor, Noel Trinidad, sees his latest movie, Family Matters, as a potential ‘last hurrah’ in his movie career. Trinidad described shooting the film as the most difficult in his career.
“I have a very bad hearing problem. This is one of the difficulties that I had when I was shooting, and I had to…naging running joke na nga eh because of the director would come to us to explain what’s going on. ‘Pag tumalikod na, sasabihan ko kasama ko, ‘ano raw, ano raw?’
“(It has become a running joke because the director would come to us and explain what’s going on every time. Once he leaves, I would ask my co-actors, what he just said because I actually did not hear it),” he told the press during the movie’s media conference on December 7.
“This was the most difficult, in terms of scheduling. Ang hirap, but it was also the most pleasant shooting I’ve ever experienced , and that’s because of these people. We were really one happy family during breaks, meron kaming sayawan, nakasama na nga ako sa TikTok.
“(This was the most difficult, in terms of scheduling. It was hard, but it was also the most pleasant I’ve ever experienced, and that’s thanks to these people. We were really a happy family during our breaks. We had dancing moments. I even got featured in their TikTok entries!).
“So it was a terrific crew, and masayang masaya kahit na mahirap. Ang saya saya namin, kaming dalawa ni Liza, we spent the time singing old songs.
“(It was really a terrific crew, and we were all very happy even though it was difficult. We had so much fun. Liza and I spent time singing old songs).”
Trinidad’s five-decade showbiz career started in the late ‘70s. He has appeared in numerous movies and TV series already, and along with it, recognition from various award-winning bodies. It wasn’t surprising that he is already considering the film could be his last.
‘Palagay ko naman ay magtatagal pa ako nang konti. Although I must say, I always say, na ito na palagay ko ang last hurrah for me. One reason is because of my hearing problem. If this will be my last hurrah, then for me, it’s such a terrific honor to have this as my last hurrah.
“(I may have a few more years left. Although I must say, this film could be the last hurrah of my career. One reason is because of my hearing problem. If this will be my last hurrah, then for me, it’s such a terrific honor to have this as my last hurrah),” he noted.
In Family Matters, Trinidad plays the patriarch of a family whose members squabble with each other as they decide on who among the children will take care of their ailing father. The heartwarming light drama promises to showcase the dynamics of a family, as well as to inspire the audience with its timeless inspiration.
Hailing from the makers of the 2019 blockbuster, Miracle in Cell #7, Family Matters goes head-to-head with Vice Ganda and his film, Partners in Crime. Both films are official entries to the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival.
